'Resistance' by KerryT: Cry Havoc and let slip the Dogs of War

Morning, afternoon and evening all

I've had great fun again with this theme with as usual my initial plan growing bigger, out of proportion to the time I had left and as a result not as complete as I would have liked

Some years ago I printed and painted a Castle and buildings from The King & Country range by Printable scenery. Last year I signed up to their Throne & Ash Kickstarter and for the past few months have been busy printing. About 2 weeks ago, they released a model of a Barbican and this was to be the centre piece of my entry. Then my printer broke and I needed a new part. Fortunately this arrived on Monday, the lower level took nearly 2 days to print though. I managed to finish painting it this afternoon! Phew

As the first picture shows, I bought some STL files in the MMF sale and printed off a load of artillery, 2 siege towers (Northern Crusade Miniatures) and 2 traction trebuchets ( Reconquer Designs) and a Ram with crew ( Reconquer Designs). I also found some STL of infantry climbing ladders

I've set things up to look like an attack on a walled city with attacking elements being gunpowder artillery, Ballistas throwing rocks, a mine that has caused a wall to collapse and a Ram along with infantry attempting to scale the walls. Defenders have boiling oil and giant crossbow machines

All those figures and pieces, along with the walls and towers apart from a small section on the right have been painted in the past 2-3 weeks. I couldn't resist adding some additional troops for effect though in the following photos

Figure wise I have the following

2 Ballista & 15 Crew

8 guns/bombards & 24 Crew

5 Heavy crossbows (defense) and 10 crew

1 Destroyed Ram

2 Siege towers

1 Mine/bit of terrain

25 infantry with ladders

In total

86 Foot @ 5 points = 430 points

8 artillery pieces @ 10 pints = 80

2 large ballista and 2 siege towers ( vehicles) 20 pints? = 80 points

Walls - 6 foot long and 15 cms high?

2 rams ? = 20 points

Various barricades and I don't think I can claim artillery for the pots of oil

Around 660 points without what I've failed to count points for

I had hoped to get some infantry for the siege towers and crossbow defenders done but ran out of time!

'Resistance' from KillianF: Ikko Ikki

Hello,

For the "Resistance" bonus round I painted up some Japenese peasants/Ikko/jizamurai. These guys represent either angry peasants revolting against greedy samurai, fanatical budhists on a religious quest to purify the world, or (more realistically) opportunistic leagues of small landowners seeking to use the chaos of the Sengoku Jidai to make their political mark on Japan.

These models are 3d prints from Hokusa 3d, who has made an excellent series of medieval Japanese sculpts. The Samurai Revolt set is by far the most characterful, which is where these guys come from.

Deceptively complicated models that look relatively simple to start with. The armour lacings can drive you mad (They did so to me)

The guy in the centre wearing the straw raincoat is my favourite for the above reasons.

Second from the left has had his yari-tip break off. I say that makes him a Stikko-Stikki

Some limited cloths patterns help to provide some interest

Ikko (of which the Ikko Ikki were the most prominent) are a strange one. They were certainly a significant political force in Japan from ~1450-1580, but exactly what they were, how they were organised and fought, and for what purpose, is very muddled. Shogun 2 Total War has a lot to answer for in terms of making them a horde of fanatic peasants with warrior monks, and almost all Sengoku era model ranges copy this. The Tenka Fubu blog (link) provides a succinct opinion of the many perils of Western understanding of the period. A very useful tool to have. Nonetheless, these guys will see use as revolting peasasnts, Buddhist Fanatics, bandits, or simply less well equipped retainers of traditional bushi samurai. I am aiming to paint up a few different warbands of perhaps 40 models to add together to make armies for Midgard and The Pikeman's Lament.

Great models, and I can't help but feel I haven't done them justice. Ah well, I've got ~40 odd more to paint! I will likely have to give these guys a second pass once I've built up my familiarity a bit better.

'Resistance' by MarkE: 28mm Blood Bowl Humans

We've done the balls, we have an Orc team, and now to ~~play~~ provide Resistance I've finally finished the boxset human team to get on the field (with some red highlights because we can't have da Orks going too much fasta). Ok it's a bit of a stretch to fit in the theme, but old school GW was always about stretching a theme anyhow. Once again sticking with the Army Painter Speedpaint line, except for the gold metallics. Now for the introductions:

'Resistance' by MikeF: Cadian Regimental Standard Bearer

For the Resistance Theme, I painted up a Cadian Regimental Standard Bearer. Cadia stood firm against the forces of the Eye of Terror for 10,000 years - then in 8th edition, I guess they turned coward and allowed the planet to explode #NOTMY40K. I'm rooted in the before time however, when Cadia and the Imperium was always 1 minute from midnight. Regardless, the armies of Cadia stand ready to resist Chaos wherever it might manifest and have done so for over 10,000 years. Not a bad record!

The model is the classic metal miniature from GW. I replaced his head with one from Pig Iron Productions to better fit with the rest of my Cadian Imperial Guard. This guy, along with the 2 regimental advisors I completed earlier in the challenge, completes the command squad for the army.

That pesky red star again!

'Resistance' by NickY: Resist Poison and Insatiable Hunger

Here my fellow Druchii are 5 cold one riders hailing from the city of executioners, Har Ganeth. Fed on rich crustacean flesh full of carotenoids from the deeps waters of the Seas of Malice and Chill, these fearsome and beautiful reptilians have acquired a pink hue that most pleases the tastes of the Hag Queen.

Resistance theme = 20 points

Total = 70 points

One of my favorite Warhammer Fantasy characters, and indeed novel series, was Malus Darkblade. And while I loved and hated Malus in equal measure, I had nothing but love for his cold one mount, Spite. Part lizard, part canine, all heart, teeth and claw, this loyal companion was the highlight of whichever page he appeared on. If you haven't read the series, I won't spoil it for you, but perhaps you'll end up dreaming of riding your own cold one, too.

There is a catch, however.

These reptilian beasts from the caves of Hag Graef exude a poisonous and quite toxic slime from their skin. You'll need a strong will to tame the beast, and you'll need to grit your filed teeth tightly and resist the poison as it slowly steals all the sensation from your skin. So, too, must you resist the beast's urge to hunt and devour prey, lest its frenzy for flesh carries you right into the heart of the enemy line, alone and exposed.

So resist. Resist poison and the will of your mount and become a knight of Naggaroth - the most feared and dangerous warriors under the Witch King's command.

Malus Darkblade on Spite

'Resistance' by Paul O'G: Russian Crimean War Skirmishers

Defending the Motherland from foreign invaders is quite a (historical) Russian tradition, so this is Bonus round theme I start my Russian Crimean War army- ready to Resist the those interfering British, French and other tag-along stooges who have landed on Russian soil!

Za Rodinu! Za Tsarya! (For the Motherland! For the Tsar!)

I had intended this to be a more fulsome "first battalion" reveal but unfortunately, impacts of recent world events said no. But a start is a start, so here is a stout Russian Officer leading some feisty skirmishers to defend the Rodina - and after months of planning and painting I'm pleased to get the first batch posted despite being smaller than anticipated!

Regrettably, I didn't get a chance to setup a nice photo shoot for them. Apologies!

The 6 musketeers are metal figs by Great War Miniatures, and the Officer is a Warlord metal sculpt- together they form a light infantry unit in Sharp Practice plus a basic level leader.

Thats 7 x 28mm metal figs for 35+50 bonus = 85 points

Their brave but poorly trained friends will now make an appearance a little later in the Challenge.

'Resistance' by PaulSS: We resist the grave itself!

Late into the Challenge and the chance to start a new project!

Chatting at the club we wanted to start playing some classic fantasy Midgard, as well as the new Wargames Atlantic plastic there are also the 10mm prints from Forest Dragon.

I decided to do the restless dead and purchased a few units and manged to get these two units of skeleton warriors finished in time for the bonus round, restless dead resisting the grave!

These are really great sculpts and I think suit my painting style, in 10mm that is blocked in basecoats, wash with soft tone and then reapply one, maybe two highlights.

My target is to get a few more units done before the end of the challenge.

72 10mm figures plus the round bonus should add 122 points to my total.

'Resistance' by PeteB: 3D Luke Skywalker

If someone knows something about resistance, you can't go around Luke Skywalker. He's been years in the resistance against "The Empire". Almost seven movies! The figure I've painted is a 3D figure I received as a gift from a friend from Croatia. He came together with another Star Wars figure I've painted for my youngest son, Boba Fett. And it looks like it is beginning to be a habit that I'm restoring broken figures. From this one the light saber was broken. I think I maneged wel to fix the damage. Well here is Luke and may the force be with him!
