'Resistance' by NickY: Resist Poison and Insatiable Hunger

Here my fellow Druchii are 5 cold one riders hailing from the city of executioners, Har Ganeth. Fed on rich crustacean flesh full of carotenoids from the deeps waters of the Seas of Malice and Chill, these fearsome and beautiful reptilians have acquired a pink hue that most pleases the tastes of the Hag Queen.

One of my favorite Warhammer Fantasy characters, and indeed novel series, was Malus Darkblade. And while I loved and hated Malus in equal measure, I had nothing but love for his cold one mount, Spite. Part lizard, part canine, all heart, teeth and claw, this loyal companion was the highlight of whichever page he appeared on. If you haven't read the series, I won't spoil it for you, but perhaps you'll end up dreaming of riding your own cold one, too.

There is a catch, however.

These reptilian beasts from the caves of Hag Graef exude a poisonous and quite toxic slime from their skin. You'll need a strong will to tame the beast, and you'll need to grit your filed teeth tightly and resist the poison as it slowly steals all the sensation from your skin. So, too, must you resist the beast's urge to hunt and devour prey, lest its frenzy for flesh carries you right into the heart of the enemy line, alone and exposed.

So resist. Resist poison and the will of your mount and become a knight of Naggaroth - the most feared and dangerous warriors under the Witch King's command.

'Toy Story' from GeoffT: Teddy & Friends

Hello Challengers,

These miniatures are Folk Horrors by Gardens of Hecate.  They are amazing miniatures, but I found them super hard to paint, I tried to copy the sculptors paint methods of lots of highlights and washes and highly contrasting browns.  I probably learned a bit, but did not produce a shadow of the original inspiration.

One of the minis looks like an angry teddy bear, probably one of those expensive ones by Steiff.  Angry because his bow tie is missing.  Thus the Toy Story theme claim.

There are 26 miniatures varying in size from about 12mm to 54mm.  They are nominally 28mm scale and based onto on 24 bases, and the weeny ones are triple based.  So I think I’ll call them 24 x 28mm foot if nobody objects.  Plus an additional 50 points for the dear teddy bear brings the total up to 170 points.

'Toy Story' from StephenS: He-Man and the Masters of the Universe!

 'By the Power of Grayskull... I have the power!'

G'day,

I have for you two iconic characters for anyone whose childhood spanned the 1980's. He-Man and Skeletor from the He-Man and the Masters of the Universe TV show that ran from 1983 to 1985. While it only ran for two seasons, the success of its toy line helped spawn a whole industry of cartoons designed to sell toys, toys I loved playing with as a young boy. Also, who can forget the helpful 'life lessons' offered at the end of each episode. It is one of those childhood shows that has resonated over the years.

There have been a number of re-boots over the years, and a new live-action film is in the works. The models I have painted up are 28 mm plastic models from CMON's Masters of the Universe: The Board Game -  Clash for Eternia.

It is always a blast to paint up something that is so nostalgic, and I thoroughly enjoyed working on these. I will definitely be off to see the new movie.

Two 28mm cavalry models and the bonus is 70 points.

'Empire' From Iain W 28mm Black Tree Design Late Roman Infantry 100 points

First post and nice to be back having missed the last challenge, for the Empire round I have ten Late Roman Armoured infantry from Black Tree design that I picked up second hand at either Colours or Salute a while ago with lots of dark age figures, I bought some at Colours, had buyers regret at not buying more, so when the chap turned up at Salute I was able to buy the rest and move on! Nice figures to paint, individualy mounted on 1p pieces and then in a 120mm sabot tray, originaly for Dux Bellorum but probably for Midgard or maybe To the Strongest! although I still have a soft spot for Impetus that they would work well for too.

Primed black as I find that works well for armoured figures, chunky chaps, easy to paint with hand painted shields as per Dux Homunculorum of this parish who largely provided inspiration for this project, bit of a slow burner as his last blog post on it was 2015, how time flies!

Late Roman Empire troops to fulfil the Empire theme.

'Empire' From StephenS: Another very late Roman Empire post [Empire] (90 points)

G'day,

For my Empire post I had the great idea of doing a little vignette of a Roman soldier from the various periods we game - an omage to the rise and fall of Rome. Alas, I only had the idea on the same day the post was due. So instead, you get some more Late Roman soldiers (they appear to be popular this year). These are from the lovely range offered by Victrix Miniatures and the shield decals are by Little Big Men Studios.

I believe these are the first Roman Empire figures I have painted, despite being on my bucket list for many years. Though I have painted plenty of Carthaginians wearing Roman spoils of war... I went with some cavalry first as a little nod to their rise in pre-eminence as armies and tactics evolved during this period, and the ability of the Empire to recruit, arm and pay the traditional legions diminished.

I am basing them for use in skirmish games, though if I get a taste for it, I may start dreaming of bigger things. My preference is still to do an Early Imperial Roman Army (too many Asterix comics as a kid perhaps), but the later periods are what my gaming buddies lean towards.

4 x 28 mm plastic figures and the bonus should be 90 points please.
