'Music/Musician' from:PaulS: Bountiful Growth
When the challenge first started, I had no clue what musician to make, then some kindly soul sent me a bunch of the new goblins from Oathmark, the mass battle game from the makers of Frostgrave, which included a drummer. Score! So the drummer was painted up and put into a queue to photograph when t came around to this Bonus round. Despite being a goblin, he's the same height as a Frostgrave human. Their view of Goblins is similar to JRR Tolkein, rather than GW's.
I finished this and was all "That looks pretty good. I'm happy with that as my submission". Then Games Workshop happened. Along came the Nurgle releases for Age of Sigmar, which you've seen some releases for this challenge already. Part of this was the monstrous Great Unclean One.
I'd always wanted one since the old metal ones way back in the early 90s, so when this hunk of plastic came along... well.
Great unclean one. Musician? What? Yep. One of the options in the new kit is to carry a giant bell to encourage your army to move faster. The kit offers quite a few different options. You have the bell, a flail, sword, knife, massive sword or a tentacle arm and wand for a special character. Me being me couldn't decide. To me, the sword is iconic GUO, but the want and tentacle were also pretty neat... but the bell is pretty much essential for a game. So... kitbash time!
Lots of different washes and dry brushing, plus some weathering effects led to what you see. I'm really happy with this horrible mountain of rotting flesh. As for points... I'm really not sure what he is worth. You decide Curt. Here's a scale picture of him, along with his band mate, the goblin drummer. You thought the beasts on Friday were big, you ain't seen nuthin ;)
revoltingly brilliant
ReplyDeleteColossal! Awesomeness! Cheers
ReplyDeleteCripes, what a beautifully rendered revolting figure! I usually despise Nurgle stuff but this is pretty darn amazing. Well done Paul!
ReplyDeleteYou seem to be saying that a lot this challenge ;)
DeleteSee man, the verdigris on that bell is sweet!
ReplyDeleteVerdigris is a cheat, as is the rust. Both are ModelMates railroad weathering liquids. Slap it on and as it dries, it creates the effect
DeleteNice goblin, awesome great unclean one!
ReplyDeleteBest Iain
I love th9s figure as a homage to the first ever (now tiny) GUO. Great job on the painting.
ReplyDeleteWow! That is smashing work Paul.
ReplyDeleteBrilliant GUO! What a fine piece!
ReplyDeleteThe orc was great, but the daemon is amazing!
ReplyDeleteGreat work all round, especially on a figure as big as that demon!
ReplyDeleteYeeech that's an ugly big brute. Well done on the putrid flesh colours.
ReplyDeleteThat nurgle dude looks soooo great and real it actually made me shudder, great work!
ReplyDeleteI do like the lanky goblin, Paul, but that demon is a show stopper! I like how his flesh just seems to ooze down with gravity. The magic is the glow of the eyes, the scabs, boils, and filth on the model and his equipment that really sets it off.
ReplyDeleteI'm more of a fan of the classic GUO, bit this new kit might need a gander! ;)
good job painting all those details
ReplyDeleteThanks all! To top it off, he's been picked to appear in GW's community gallery (apparently!)
ReplyDeleteCongratulations Paul!
