Mr Smee: That's not countin' the holidays, either.
Best. Photoshop. Ever. |
To try and emulate the bright cartoon look of the film characters, I undercoated these guys in white. I then promptly received a reminder about why I switched to a black undercoat many years ago. As whenever I thought I had blocked in a section, I would turn the miniature and discover a bright spot of white tucked away somewhere! Black undercoat is much more forgiving...
The miniatures are 28 mm figures from North Star's range of miniatures for 'On the Seven Seas' by Osprey. The bases are from a local Australian company, Back 2 Base-ix. The miniatures, (cryptically named Captain Hood and Mr Three on the box) obviously have a slightly darker, more competent look about them than in the film.
These
guys were a blast to paint up, and while I don't play anything that
needs pirates, they may get to make a guest appearance when my club
mates start breaking out their Blood and Plunder Kickstarters. But only
if Captain Hook and Mr Smee are both absolutely sure there are no
crocodiles ticking away nearby...
Cheers,
Steve
Two Disney entries in one week, that has to be a record around here. Nice work Steve
ReplyDeleteThanks Byron, I'm guessing Disney and wargaming are not exactly a match made in heaven :)
DeleteReally great
ReplyDeleteCheers Dave, and thanks for the videos of your table at Hammerhead on the weekend, it looked like a great game!
DeleteThat's superb! Lovely stuff. Have you got a big crocodile?
ReplyDeleteThanks very much Barks! As to the crocodile, I'm holding my breath for a theme around clocks next year... :)
DeleteGreat work. I hear you re: white basecoating...so pointless...
ReplyDeleteCheers Greg, and I know, never again!
DeleteGreat work
ReplyDeleteThanks Adam!
DeleteWell done Steve, great work and a wonderful pair of miniatures.
ReplyDeleteThanks Michael, they were definitely a treat to paint up!
DeleteMy goodness, how splendid. Both are nice the the Captain absolutely pops thanks to details like your careful brushwork with the feather hat plume. Well done. Somehow I feel that the Captain could cross over to Mr. Roundwood's land of Laarden and be right at home. :)
ReplyDeleteThank you very much Michael, it would be a great honour indeed, to be invited into the land of Laarden! :)
DeleteSuperb work Stephen. My hat is off to you on going with a white primer. I went back from black for a special project last year and regretted it for the rest of the job.
ReplyDeleteCheers Curt, the white primer was what happens when one tries to get to artistic... :)
DeleteFantastic work Stephen! Sorry about the pain of painting over white primer :)
