So for my submission for the 'Flight' theme, I've got a flotilla of Dropfleet PHR ships. First up is a pair of Medea Strike Carriers.
Next is a Pandora frigate (left) and a Europa frigate (right).
Next is a Theseus light cruiser.
Next up is a Ganymede assault troopship.
And finally here is a Achilles heavy cruiser.
Full flotilla, front and back.
Not sure what the points are for these!
Here you will find all the spectacular entries to the Painting Challenge Theme Bonus Rounds. Enjoy, vote and please leave comments for the participants!

'Flight' from SebastianR: Batman
Evenin' all.
So confession time, this is my first post but I'm not going to do the introductions thing as I'm running a bit short of time. You see it's the bonus round, and the deadline is 0000H. I'm pretty sure that that's Alaska time but it's 2348 here in the UK and I don't want to take any chances.
Anyway, for your delectation, here is that well known representative of flight*, Batman!**
This is the Batman figure from the "Batman Miniatures Game" by Knight Models. I acquired it as part of a lot; it's not something I'd normally buy for myself, despite the figure being rather nice.
This isn't just any Batman, this is Batman (Ben Affleck) and they drive that home even in the text of the stat booklet you get with him.
Which suggests to me that either a) Ben Affleck is actually the Batman universe or b) They're planning to bring out all the previous Batman's too, including perhaps Adam West. Now that's a DC extended universe movie I would pay money to see...
There's not much colour going on, apart from the grass which I added at his feat to conceal the basing bar(?). I used a few semi-targetted grey drybrushes followed by a more targeted one with some Iraqui Sand mixed in to highlight a few areas. There must be a better way to paint "black" out there, but I think he looks pretty good for the effort put in. Not going to lie, it was probably the quickest paintjob I've ever done.
Looking forward to introducing myself properly on Tuesday; hello and Happy New Year to you all!
*Of course he can fly, he was bitten by a radioactive bat and gained all the powers of bat. That's how all super heroes work, right?
**All instances of the word Batman are to be read in Bale style growly voice.
'Flight' from StephenS: An Argument of Witches
Shakespeare had his famous three witches from Macbeth chanting 'double, double toil and trouble; Fire burn and cauldron bubble...' as they met to work their magic. These particular witches that I've painted are more likely to disagree about whose turn it was to bring the cake than to worry about the 'whole eye of newt and toe of frog' thing.
These witches flying along on their broomsticks are some of my favourite characters from Terry Pratchett's Discworld novels. In this world, the collective noun for witches is not a 'coven' but an 'argument' of witches. Rarely doing any real magic, these witches prefer to use common sense, hard work and 'headology' to solve their problems and kick ass. While not your typical evil witch, these witches are certainly considered monstrous by the various nefarious souls they run into...

The miniatures are 28 mm sculpts from Micro Art Studio and were painted up as a gift for my lovely wife, who loves the books and these characters in particular. They came with the scenic bases they're on. I used a variety of 'recipes' for painting the black cloaks to try and give each a little more character, which show with mixed success in the photos...
Cheers,
Steve
'Flight' from SteveM: GW Hobbit Great Eagles
Scale: 28mm
Mfg: Games Workshop
Product: The Hobbit St
Material: hard plastic
I have been eyeing these models for some time and decided to pick them up during the holiday sale at the FLGS. They took paint very well and will go well with the rest of the LoTR army. The wingspan is nearly 8 inches across.

'Flight' from SidneyR: Troops in Flight, 1688
"When an entire Victory is obtain’d, he who hath lost the day
should not lose his Courage too, but ought to
gather up his Shipwreck, rally his dispers’d and broken troops,
get new recruits, dissemble his losses,
encourage his party and draw to a head again;
these are things practis’d by all intelligent Generals."

Pallas Armata, Chapter XXII, 1683
I love the idea of replacing formed wargames units of troops which are in rout on the tabletop with bases of shattered troops in flight. The first themed round of the Challenge gave me the chance to create such a "flight", depicting two groups of troops, each of which could replace a routed unit on my late seventeenth century tabletop.
I got the idea from a Barry Hilton article in War-games Illustrated in the 1990s, and all the credit for the idea is therefore Barry's not mine. I set about creating the bases before the Challenge started, ordering the MDF bases from Warbases, and converting the figures to provide two unique scenes.
The French hussar attacking the German gunner is converted from an ECW dragoon, with a Polish dragoon head, and a spare pistol arm, with a greenstuff coat. Yes, it was that kind of a project...! The other figures are from 1st Corps, Wargames Foundry and Perry Miniatures.
'Flight' from Teemu: Aetherwings
My entry for flight round is three Aetherwings to bolster up my Stormcast Eternals force. I missed some mold lines, so I'm not very happy about them. The painting is quite simple as well, but better than nothing.
'Flight' from TomM: Dwarven Lord
Well, Bonus round time it seems, with the theme being Flight... right, so I had to scour my collection for something that actually had wings and could be used for the contest.
And I found something that was in a blisterpack after purchase at Salute... in 2011
(yes Ray, that`s the Pikachu hat year indeed).
A Dwarven Lord on a batwinged Sabretooth tiger, from the 15mm.co.uk range of HOT. I got a couple of Dark Dwarf cultists from that range as well it seems (I think, they where out of the blister already) who I`ll be painting up for this year of the AHPC as well, just for completeness sake.
You see, 15mm isn`t my "scale" for fantasy, being not much played at the club (or anything else in that scale for that matter), though for next year (yup, I`m already stacking up boxes for version 9...) I`ll be dabbling a lot more in the scale as my Fire and Sword army finally needs painting, as I purchased them weeks after... that game actually launched.
'Flight' from ValeryN - Soviet Aircraft
In the game system «Flames of War», to which I am now mainly playing, aviation is not an independent unit, but only provides support to troops on the battlefield. But with successful rolls of dice, it can solve a lot in the game (unless, of course, it is not destroyed by enemy anti-aircraft guns).
Therefore, I could not leave my Soviet army without aviation support.
All aviation in FoW is represented only by "battlefield planes" - dive bombers, ground-attack aircrafts and fighters, who tried to perform such functions.
In the USSR in the first year of the war there were not enough assault aircraft of special construction, so their role was played by obsolete fighters. I-16 was often used in this role.
Number 6 on this model is not just written. My grandfather joined his first fight on an I-16 with number 6. This happened on June 23, 1941 - on the second day of the war on the Eastern Front.
Lieutenant of the 162-Reserve Aviation Regiment Yakov Kirakosyan.
He fought from June to September 1941 and shot down two German aircraft. During the Smolensk battle, he was seriously injured by a fragment of an anti-aircraft shell. After that, health was no longer allowed to fly on a fighter, but until the end of the war, he served as an instructor in the aviation school and trained young pilots.
However, not old fighters were destined to become the basis of Soviet ground-attack aviation. Since the fall of 1941, a large number of the IL-2 appeared on the Eastern Front of the Second World War.
This is the most massive military aircraft of all time. They were produced more than 36 000.
I tried to paint this model most similar to the plane of the famous Soviet ace Vasily Emelianenko.
Soviet units of assault aviation carried terrible losses. Very few pilots survived the war from beginning to end. And Emelianenko is one of them.
I do not know how many points this work is.
On the one hand, this is a vehicle for which according to the conditions of the challenge 6 points are required. On the other hand, in FoW, aviation is represented on a slightly smaller scale - 1/144. Therefore, I leave this to Curt.
