'Sport' from DaveS: There's an Evil monkey on My Football Pitch

Firstly, yes, that is a Gorilla......  Yes, this is a Sport bonus round.

I had grand plans to finish painting the last few models for my Guild Ball Team (The Butchers) and enter them into this round.  Unfortunately, real life got in the way, and so I woke up this morning having nothing painted.  Looking for something for the round, and knowing that I would need the Butchers players for the tournament today, I spotted my Mason's Guild players.  A plan was born, and this was started and mostly finished before I left for the FLGS at 8am this morning.

So, one wooden spoon and 4 losses later, I got home, and have managed to get him painted ready for the round.  So I present Marbles, the Mason's Guild mascot for Guild Ball.  I may well have the rest of the team to display before the end of the competition, but not before the deadline for the bonus round I'm afraid.

'Reconnaissance' from DaveS: Recon Lance

So, I got to Wednesday, and I realised that I had absolutely no idea what I was going to paint for the first bonus round.  So I took a trip to the FLGS, where I came across the Catalyst Battletech miniatures.  I've been looking at them on and off for a long time, and since they were cheap and fitted, I decided to take the plunge.  I left with the Recon Lance Box.  If having the actual name of the theme in the pack title, then I don't know what does.

This left me with Thursday and Friday to paint them.  I decided that the best thing to do when trying to paint to a deadline was to try something you've never done before.  Therefore, I decided to experiment with putting glazes over pre-shading applied with the airbrush.

I started with black and airbrushed increasingly light mixes of black and white in a zenithal fashion.  Once that was dry, I used GW Gulliman Blue to make several thin glaze layers over the whole model.  After about 5 layers, I got a blue tone that I was happy with.  I then added some Khorne Red details to the shoulders, painted the weapons black, and added Retributor Gold to the windows.  Bases were painted black, which I tend to do to all of my smaller scale models since it frames them nicely.

So, without further waffling from me, the pictures.  I have no idea how many points a Battlemech is worth, but they are about 50mm tall if that helps?
