'BFG' from SteveM: German Sturer Emil Tank-hunter

Description: German Sturer Emil Tank-hunter WW2
Mfg: Battlefront
Product: GE116 x3
Scale: 15mm
Material: Resin and Metal

I have had these sitting around the Battlefront midwar montsers box hence the count of there.  I never got the play them in v3 when I was allowed to and only time will tell if v4 will allow them. Maybe there are other rulesets where they can be used.

This monster carried a 12.8cm gun with a 25’6”/7.8m long barrel. The mounted gun on the chassis is a Rheinmetall 12.8 cm K L/61 gun (based on the 12.8 cm FlaK 40) which makes it a BFG for the time.

In reading about them, only two prototypes were produced and it is a good thing from the standpoint of the other side. It was capable of firing a 58lb/26.4kg shot at 2887fps/880m/s. It could penetrate 120mm of armour sloped at 30 degrees at 2000m and over 200mm at point-blank range.

The two prototype vehicles were named Max and Moritz after the naughty boys in Busch’s famous German children’s tale(or in German)

Doesn't hurt to have another BFG so three it is.

'Flight' from SteveM: GW Hobbit Great Eagles

Scale: 28mm
Mfg: Games Workshop
Product: The Hobbit St
Material: hard plastic

I have been eyeing these models for some time and decided to pick them up during the holiday sale at the FLGS. They took paint very well and will go well with the rest of the LoTR army. The wingspan is nearly 8 inches across.

'Characters/Scene from' SteveM: Characters from Imperial Assault

Scale : 28mm
Mfg : Fantasy Flight Games
Product :Imperial Assault
Material : plastic

Paints: automotive primer, Vallejo Model Color, gloss varnish, matt vanish
Details: 5 figures

Up are three wookies and two droids for Imperial Assault from Star Wars movie fame. I haven't played the game yet but have started painting the miniatures.  This coming week I hope to get a game in and see if I like the game play.

The plastic sculps for these are pretty nice and make it straight forward to paint. With all the reference photos out there it does make one take pause though to make sure the colors look correct. and R2-D2 has the blue, white, metallics in the "right" place.

'East' from SteveM: Miyamoto Musashi and Sasaki Kojiro

Scale : 28mm (1/56)
Mfg : Wargames Illustrated Moments in History Edo Japan
Product : WIM10 Miyamoto Musashi and Sasaki Kojiro
Material : metal
Paints: automotive primer, Vallejo Model Color, matt vanish
Details: 2 figures

This blister has been sitting on the lead pile for a few years now. With the East theme it was a good time to make a go of it.  The blister commemorates the battle between Musashi and Kojiro.  I didn't know anything about them before getting the blister but the short story is they were both legendary figures of Japanese folklore who battled and it ended with one of them dead. You can search for Musashi vs Kojiro on youtube to watch several re-enactments.

From the WI site
"The two warriors met on 13 April 1612, but historians agree on little beyond the date and the result. The venue was Funajima, a remote island north of Kokura. According to legend, Musashi carved himself a new wooden sword out of an oar while en-route to the island by boat. He was also three hours late, much to the annoyance of Kojiro’s supporters, but a tactic used commonly by Musashi to provoke his opponent. When he arrived at the island, Musashi further goaded Kojiro by taunting him until Kojiro could take it no more and launched his attack. Kojiro’s sword severed Musashi’s chonmage, a hairstyle decoration like a pony-tail or queue, but the master had maneuvered Kojiro into the sunlight where he was blinded. Musashi struck swiftly, smashing Kojiro on the head. Kojiro lay dead at his feet. Musashi jumped back into his boat and sailed away before Kojiro’s followers could catch and kill him. Mushasi’s last duel where he would kill an opponent was over.

Musashi went on to fight other duels and battles, most notably in the war between the Toyotomi and Tokugawa in 1615. Afterwards, Musashi taught martial arts, specializing in throwing weapons. He also became an architect and studied Buddhism before retiring to a hermit’s life where he wrote The Book of Five Rings, which he finished shortly before his death in 1645."

I had to stop painting on these in order to meet the deadline so they get a wargaming standard paint job for now.  Maybe I'll go back later and improve some different areas that I'm not happy with.

regards,
SteveM.

'Armour' from SteveM: 15mm DAK Panzer IIIs

Scale : 15mm (1/100)
Mfg : Battlefront Miniatures
Product : ge035, ge034
Material : Metal and Resin
Paints: automotive primer, Vallejo Model Color, Winsor &Newton Oil, AK enamel washes, AMMO paint, AMMO pigments, gloss varnish, matt vanish
Details: 3 tanks

I like the DAK tanks for painting up as one gets to play with dust and dirt. I tried to show the wear and tear of being beaten by the sand in North Africa during WWII.

Regards,

SteveM.
