'Comedic' from KevinH - 'Alien Exotic Dancers'

First off, my apologies to the Ladies in the Challenge.  I don't normally do "cheezecake" figures, but some years back, I painted the Copplestone Castings "Grey Aliens" pack.  So when I saw this Reaper pack of "Alien Exotic Dancers" at the FLGS on Boxing Day, I had to get them!  I checked the list of Fortnight Challenges, and spotted "Comedic" and thought this set would make a great entry.

First off, is the "Grey Alien" dancer.  I never knew the "Grey" women were so... "well developed!"  Maybe getting Abducted ain't such a bad thing after all!  ;-)

The next dancer was fairly "human" looking, so I thought I'd paint her like a STAR TREK "Orion Slave Girl."  Then, as I got painting, I noticed she had three breasts!  I never knew that about the Orions!

I wasn't sure what to do about the third dancer...  She had one big eye, and three-fingered hands, but otherwise, wasn't too unusual (then again, there is that "mouth" in her chest!).  I started poking around for "one-eyed alien" pictures on Google, and eventually came across the "One-eyed, One horned, Flying Purple People Eater."  So that decided it - the third dancer was going to be Purple!  I thought there was something in the song about Orange hair, but looking up the lyrics showed no mention of Orange.  I decided to go with it anyway!  It made a nice contrast with the Purple skin.

All the ladies have their gold "la-mae" shoes and dance thongs, and I tried to get the Dance Pole as "chrome" as I could with brush-on paints.  I think it all turned out reasonably well.  If I'd had more time, I would have painted the 'ball' at the top like a Moon or Planet!  It would have been cool if Reaper had made the "stage" look more like a retro, '50's Flying Saucer, too!

As some of you might notice, the piece is still on a painting block.  Once again, I had been pre-occupied with Life this weekend, and had to SCRAMBLE like an RAF fighter pilot to get this piece finished!  I might as well say - I've been dealing with my Mother's deteriorating physical health over the past two years, and over the last few months her mental health has started showing signs of deterioration also.  Saturday was a good day, but Sunday not so much.  I had to "crash paint" this piece, so I could continue to keep to my Fortnight Challenge pledge.

(And I don't mention my Mother for a "sympathy vote" - I just wanted folks to know that it's something serious that is keeping me from participating in the Challenge as much as I would like to be, rather than me just skiving off and not getting painting done)

This should be a great Fortnight Challenge!  I look forward to what everyone else presents!

Thanks for looking!

'Hot' from KevinH - 'Flamethrower!'

For this Fortnight Challenge, "Hot," I was trying to figure out what to do. Then, I remembered this German Flamethrower team, from Warlord Games "Bolt Action" line (28mm). I figured a Flamethrower team was just the thing for a "Hot" Fortnight Challenge.

I had to knock these guys out pretty quickly this morning (and it probably shows) - I've got a LOT on my plate these days, and wasn't sure I'd even be able to post something for Fortnight! (that is also why I haven't been posting regularly, since I hit my Challenge mark - but I do still have to finish off my Entry figures!)

However, I pledged to myself this Challenge, that I wanted to try and make all the Fortnight Challenges, so I had to have "SOMETHING!" I remembered these guys were "secreted" somewhere on "Lead Mountain," but they had been eluding me all week. Finally last night, they turned up, so the cleaning and basing began in earnest!

Despite being Warlord "Bolt Action" figures, they are not Paul Hicks sculpts - they are a bit "cartoon-ie" and the arms on the kneeling guy look a bit awkward. I think the actual "flamer" guy _IS_ based on a Paul Hicks model (I'm pretty sure I have that model somewhere, but it doesn't have the "flame" effect), but the head/face has been resculpted to include the goggles.

Pretty straightforward painting and basing - but it was nice to get out the brushes and slap some paint around, to take my mind off everything else that's going on right now. I think the "flame" effect actually looks better in the pictures, than it does on the figure!

So the next Fortnight will be "Comedic" - hmm... Time to start putting something together for that one now! Hopefully, "Life" can take a step back for a while...

Thanks for looking!

'Myth' from KevinH - 'Gug'

So, this Fortnight Challenge is "Myth." We used to play a lot of the Call of Cthulhu role-playing game, years ago. I always enjoyed those "Mythos" stories! Some years back, when we were looking to try and do some Cthulhu miniatures games with the Strange Aeons rules, I painted one of the RAFM "Gug" models. Sadly, I never did take any pictures of that figure...

On Boxing Day, I dropped in at the F.L.G.S. as they usually have some good things to offer on the day. I started poking around in the Reaper figures, and found THIS crazy "Gug" beastie!

I was thinking "Myth" or "Monster" or something similar, was one of the Fortnight Challenge options, so I scooped up this figure, along with some other nice Reaper figures I'm hoping you might still see as part of my Challenge posts!

I found this illustration for the Gug on the H.P. Lovecraft Wiki page. I wish some company had made a Gug model that looks like this! At least this guy's "face" looks practical and workable! (yes, I just used "practical" and "workable" in reference to a Cthulhu monster!)

The RAFM model doesn't look too bad, but the mouth on the Reaper model looks positively suggestive! --like a "vagina dentata!" (Look that up sometime, if you're feeling adventurous! --sorry Ladies, and children!) Someone has a very ODD sense of humour!

I painted this Gug according to the description on the Wiki page. In order to try to add a bit of diversity to an almost ALL black figure, I smudged in a bit of Green and Red in the "recesses" on the legs and back, and the "brain" lumps sticking out the sides of the head area. I finished off the model with a wash of Vallejo Model Wash Black. I did thin the wash, but perhaps not enough - it sort of 'killed' the Green and Red bits unless you look closely at the model (and I'm not sure they'll even show in these pictures).

Anyway, it was a fun model to paint! I hope no-one looses any SAN from looking at this post! ;)
