'Water Feature' from RobH: Island Fortress

Last year at the Cangames marketplace in Ottawa I picked up this star fort with the intended purpose of placing it at the end of a point of land or on a small island for a terrain feature. This year's challenge water feature bonus round was a perfect fit.

I don't know the scale of the fort, as it was a loose piece without provenance but my guess is 1/2400th scale. Manufacturer unknown.  The two sailing vessels in the foreground are 1/1200th.  The island feature measures 9.5 inches x 7 inches by 3 inches for a total volume just under 200 cubic inches.

'Reconnaissance' from RobH: One of The Nine

The first of the Dark Riders has entered the Shire, seeking his Master's Precious. IMO that is a reconnaissance mission. In keeping with the Fellowship theme how could I not paint one of the Nazgûl.

This figure is from the Games Workshop Lord of the Rings series. I don't normally frequent their shops but I'm happy to pick up these miniatures whenever I get a chance. They are beautiful sculpts. I am still looking for at least one riding a Fell Beast.

This is the second Black Rider I added to my collection. A simple paint job of black with brown and grey highlights. Gun metal for the sword. The hard part was getting the figure to stay stable in the plastic base. Green stuff is almost as powerful as duct tape. If I had any complaint about the line of figures, that would be it.

A quick fix as I'm pretty sure my planned entry won't be dry in time to take a photo today. I took this photo the same time I photographed my last entry. The sun sets far too early in the day for my liking.

'Flight' from RobH: 28mm Fight or Flight

I've had the following figure sitting on or near my work space for almost four years, when first I applied a blue wash to it. There it sat. I was not inspired to do anything with it. Like all fantasy figures in my collection I hoped someday to use in a HOTT Army. When I read this year's challenge and I saw the Flight Theme a kernel of an idea took root. "Fight or Flight"

The Dragon model itself is a 7 year old sculpt by Reaper Miniatures. The original model was a metal miniature standing approximately 6" tall and with a 10" wingspan, but is now available as a soft resin figure.  I prefer the original.

Next was how to present Fight or Flight. I remembered that somewhere buried in my mountain of lead was the Games Workshop Lord of the Rings Isildur figure. Instead of shattering Narsil upon the Dark Lord, the sword breaks during an  attempt to burgle the hoard of the frost dragon menace of northern Adon. In the tableau presented a thief lies sprawled before Deathsheet. Should the burglar have taken flight, instead of staying to fight?

In comparison to the dragon, the 28mm human figure is insignificant, lost upon of the dragon's hoard. The photos I took this morning do not do justice to the scene.
