Presenting
Lieutenant Commander Michael Mills, New South Wales Volunteer Naval
Reserve. Seen here serving with the colonial Naval Brigade dispatched
from Australia to the Sudan to give the Mad Mullah a darn good
thrashing!
A
renowned adventurer, "Millsy” (as he is known in the shearing sheds of
the Outback) naturally could not resist to Empire. How he lost his leg
is unclear but it involves a dromedary, 3 lovely ladies, a fresh spring
of lavender, 4 Chinese coolies and an eel. What is certain is that the
prosthesis that the ship's artificer made for him keeps him mobile and
on his feet.
From
an Imperial perspective, Australia is in the far East. And Africa is
also East of Great Britain. And the Sudan is in Eastern Africa. Thats
three reasons why this qualifies as an "East” submission :-)
This
entry was inspired on Google chat one morning with DaveD when we
discussed the Sudan being Australia's first contribution of military
forces outside our own colonies. This small contribution to Dave's
Sudan project will be winging his way shortly. Congrats on completing
your thousand Mahdist foot milestone Dave, and I hope this miniature
version of Millsy leads your Jolly Jack tars to victory against them!
Figure is by Artisan Designs - "Colonel Lattimer" from the Mars Frontier Force range.
Millsy .. that's really kind of you.. thanks mate , I look forward to sorting him a command out!
ReplyDeleteLovely stuff Paul! Does that mean that Dave will now have two Millsy's in his Sudan force? Now, that could lead to all sorts of hilarious mix-ups :)
ReplyDeleteYes, but only one of them is in the Senior Service and is thus the one true Millsy :-)
DeleteBesides, this one has the characteristically GIMPy leg :-)
DeleteIndeed...
DeleteMillsy turns up everwhere! Terrific work, Paul, an affectionate tribute to our Duels Wallah!
ReplyDeleteAwesome. cheers
ReplyDeleteWhat a spectacular gift and memento to mark Dave's achievement.
ReplyDeleteThis Millsy must be the rich uncle who made his fortune in Australia... ;)
Great fun!
ReplyDeletev cool
ReplyDeletePromotion at last! No more latrine duty for this chap!
ReplyDeleteOh I'm sorry, hadn't you heard? This rank also comes with a bigger shovel.
Deletehe's bound to come to grief and head back down... but what a tale it will be!
DeleteGenius! Great job and a wonderful contribution to the collection.
ReplyDeleteTop job Paul!
ReplyDeleteNice work Paul! A neat idea for the theme, I can't imagine there are many Aussie Naval reserve figures painted up in the world!
ReplyDeleteCute. Artizan sculpts are always such fun. Nice gesture.
ReplyDeleteThat some quality brushwork and a fun entry.
ReplyDeleteFantastic work, and a wonderful post. One has to think - "a dromedary, 3 lovely ladies, a fresh spring of lavender, 4 Chinese coolies and an eel" is a better guest list than many parties I've been to in the last 12 months....
ReplyDeleteNice entry, Paul! That is a wonderful blue jacket, I hope Millsy doesn't wreck the gold braid!
ReplyDelete...and the "gimpy" leg... too funny! ;)
Excellent work mate, fantastic idea and brilliantly executed :-)
ReplyDeleteGreat idea, well done!
